A sports journalism major who graduated only to work in construction, but then left to pursue his goal of becoming a sports reporter. However, it was a Craigslist ad that would change his career path forever.
Yes, Craigslist.
Had I not inquired about a sports blogging position in Monrovia, CA in 2007, my professional journey may have turned out quite different. It was then that I was hired as one of the first in-house writers for a comparison shopping start-up (MeziMedia), where I was lucky to learn the ins-and-outs of SEO, content, marketing and a whole other toolbox of skills. As one of the key members of a company that had teams spanned across two continents, I helped to successfully create and manage their new publishing division. During my time with the company (later to be acquired by ValueClick, then IAC), we had web properties in nearly every popular category, such as comparison shopping, online coupons and discounts, health, finance and travel.
Over my 12+ years as a content and marketing professional, I’ve directed and managed the content and social media teams for both start-ups and iconic brands, such as ChristianMingle and JDate. I’ve had success building teams from the ground-up, in addition to being brought in to revamp departments in turnaround stages.
Today, I manage my own online properties (SportsLingo.com) and consult other companies on their content strategy, marketing and social media. I help to provide creative direction, copywriting, editing and other content services through my company BrainBoost Media, LLC. In addition, I work with major college athletic programs, such as Cal State Fullerton, Florida and Ohio State, by providing them with game photography, marketing and creative assets to help enhance their brands and online presence.
